Visa exemption scheme

Holders of valid Maldivian passports or travel documents are eligible for visa exemption when entering Thailand for the purpose of tourism. Upon receiving permission to enter Thailand, Maldivians are allowed to stay in the country for a period not exceeding 30 days.

Maldivians planning to use the Thai visa exemption scheme need to ensure that they have:

- passports which will remain valid for a minimum of 6 months

- proof of funds worth - 20000 THB per person or 40000 THB per family in any currency

- proof of intention to leave Thailand within 30 days

Entrance into Thailand through a land border checkpoint without a visa is allowed only twice a year (1 January to 31 December).

Visa Extension

The Thai visa exemption scheme allows the extension of the initial visa for a further period of 30 days. Visa extension is usually allowed only once. Consecutive extensions of visa more than once is allowed only in exceptional circumstances and on a case by case basis. Hospitalized patients and their caregivers can usually extend their visas more than once.

Application for an extension could be lodged at a Thai Immigration office in Thailand.
